The paperwork shuffle begins anew... received a large packet of documents from Alliance yesterday that need to be filled out and returned by next week. Looks like another short week and another big check...

Gee, wasn't today productive... sent back the adoption agreement (yeah, we checked the "yes" box). USPS cert number 2445930748 (I wonder whose phone number that is... maybe a good lottery pick someday) All the talk today is about SARS, and wouldn't you know - first 3 cases in MA identified today - a 1yo girl from China and her new adopted mom and aunt. Sigh. We're going anyway - does the term "hell or high water" come into play here?

Nan and Hai Rong were great help today with translations - thanks ladies! Also, got the full doc translation from Alliance (Jiaying Ni [jni@AllforChildren.org]), and it's mostly stuff we had already, but a few tidbits.

Fu Liqian's Development Report

Fu Liqian, female, was found at the gate of Civil Affair Bureau in Hengdong County on July 30, 2002. She was dressed in navy blue at admittance. There were some clothing, bottles, formula, juice and a small note found with her. The note showed that she was born at 3:00pm on July 26, 2002. We tried to find her biological parents but failed.

Her check-up was normal at admittance: weight 3.3 kg, height 51 cm, head circumference 35 cm, chest circumference 36 cm. We named her Fu Liqian.

We fed Liqian milk at the first 3 months. She grew up quickly. She ate and slept very well. She was always full of energy and was very smart. She was able to gaze at the caretakers' gestures. At 4 months, she could suck her fingers and smile. She liked to be held by adults. At 5 months, she could turn the head to right and left when lying on the bed and grasp her hair by both her hands. She could stand on the bed with the caretaker's help and kick the legs. She was also able to show excitement at seeing the bottles. At 5 months and a half, she could play toys and move herself by riding a walking-chair. She was really a pretty and adorable girl.

Eating: She took milk at her first 3 months. She had a meal every 2 or 2.5 hours at daytime and had 4-5 meals at night. She took 70-80 ml for each meal. After 3 months, we added some rice cereal and a little bit salt into the formula. She had 5 meals at daytime and 3-4 meals at night. She took 100-120 ml for each meal. We began to give her orange juice, fish liver oil and calcium as supplement. After 5 months, her appetite was increased. She had 4 meals at daytime and 3 meals at night. She took 200-240 ml for each meal. We began to add eggs into the formula.

Liqian is taking a collective life in the orphanage. Her daily routine is regular. She gets up at sunrise and plays for a while before breakfast. She takes a nap in the morning and afternoon, respectively. She likes to suck the nipple at sleep. Her pose of sleep is good. Her urination and defecation are regular. Sometimes she is able to call when she is in need. She defecates 1-2 times and urinates 9 times a day. She is a quite normal and easy girl.

Comments: approved to adoption

Starting Up! We got the phone call today... our new daughter's adventure toward becoming part of our family has reached a milestone.

The name given to her at the orphanage is Fu Li Qian - she was born on July 26, 2002 - making her just a tad over 8 months old. At 7 kg and 64 cm, she seems to be a good size, not small at all! Her pictures show she has a small amount of light-colored hair (and a drool issue...)
